The Digital Readiness Gap: Why Restaurant Technology Fails Without Operational Readiness

October 25, 2026
Education Theater 1045
The session would examine the growing disconnect between technology adoption and operational infrastructure within restaurants and hospitality businesses. While many operators invest heavily in customer-facing systems such as reservations, online ordering, marketing platforms, and AI tools, many still struggle with fragmented workflows, disconnected reporting systems, inconsistent operational processes, and internal communication breakdowns that limit scalability and profitability. The presentation would combine: -real-world operational observations from hospitality clients, -practical insights from restaurant and cafe environments, -and findings from my graduate research on digital readiness and digital adoption in food businesses. Key discussion areas would include: -the difference between digital adoption and operational readiness, -why technology alone does not solve operational inefficiencies, -how communication breakdowns impact visibility and financial control, -and what hospitality/restaurant businesses should prioritize before scaling digital systems. -Distinguish between customer-facing technology investments and the operational infrastructure required to support sustainable growth. -Assess how communication gaps between operations, finance, and management teams contribute to visibility and control issues -Develop a framework for prioritizing operational readiness before scaling digital systems, automation, or AI-driven tools.
